Excellent part quality. All parameters are optimal.

Die Casting Glossary

Die

A specialized tool used in die casting to shape molten metal into a specific part design.

Shot Sleeve

A chamber in the die casting machine where molten metal is poured before being injected into the die cavity.

Plunger

A piston that forces the molten metal from the shot sleeve into the die cavity under high pressure.

Gate

The channel through which molten metal enters the die cavity.

Runner

The channel system that guides molten metal from the shot sleeve to the gate and into the die cavity.

Vent

Small openings in the die that allow air and gases to escape as molten metal fills the cavity.

Ejector Pins

Mechanical pins that push the solidified part out of the die after casting.

Flash

Excess material that forms at the parting line of the die, usually trimmed off after casting.

Cycle Time

The total time required to produce one die cast part, from die closing to part ejection.

Solidification

The process of molten metal cooling and hardening into its final shape within the die cavity.
